Inspired by this tutorial, I created these t-shirt bibs for my nephew:

I'm not the best sewer, but I can get the job done. I wish I had these for my son when he was a baby!

I also baked a cake from scratch (another first). Using this tutorial, I created a delicious Pumpkin Spice Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting.

I forgot to take a picture, so I borrowed one from the tutorial.

I've been inspired by Pinterest a lot lately. But, I was worried that I was spending all of my time being inspired and not necessarily being productive. After watching this video on Pinterest, I decided to stop pinning and actually create something. It's a lot harder than it sounds. Pinterest is addictive.

No, this is not an official "art week", nor do I know if it even exists. But, it should.

I've been inspired lately to explore different forms of art and I thought I would share with you some people & things that have been inspiring me as of late.

I learned of Jean-Pierre Blanchard from an art blog a month or so ago and haven't been able to stop watching him. He is amazing. Seriously amazing. There are several you tube videos of him doing speed painting. This is just one of the many and they never cease to astonish me.

Ceiling Tin Headboards & West Elm

I've been a fan of West Elm for sometime. In fact, these current items have been sitting in my virtual shopping cart for a month:

I Love virtual shopping, it's like a layaway plan in my head.

While reading the blog, Loving Living Small, I couldn't help but be drawn to her recent post. As she toured the Georgetown West Elm, I was thrilled to see a gigantic ceiling tin headboard. The picture doesn't truly convey the size. It looks like a 12ft tall headboard!

So cool! I must say the tin quality isn't up to my standards, but it's the thought that counts. I love the pairing of the old & new. Vintage & modern = so cool. :)

Craft Room Revamp

I have a few rooms in my house that are ready for a re-do. One of them is my craft room. It's technically my studio, but I haven't made that leap when describing my creative area. Maybe it's because I share it with my husbands weight set, hmmm.

To set the stage, I currently use Ikea Expedit shelves (turned horizontal) to store my supplies and Ikea floating shelves above (& throughout the room) to display my completed pieces.

I've already transformed my closet into a work area, but I really love the fabric backed walls! So cheery & inspiring!

If you think you may try this out, I found a great tutorial for covering walls with fabric.

Another inspiring creation is this great tiered tray tutorial for storing all those little supplies. The only thing I may do differently is turn it into a lazy susan (is that the correct term?) so I can spin the tray. Love it!

I still need to choose fabric, a paint color and then convince my husband to add some recessed lighting. That should do it.

My favorite is this dining room table! I love the mix of rustic & modern.

This stool was given a new life. Fabulous!

After seeing these, I wish I hadn't purchased new lamps. I love the cork lamp!

Weekend Goals Accomplished ???

Well, I did love on my family, but I always feel like there's more to give. It's so easy to be selfish so a daily (um, hourly) reminder of my purpose in this world is always needed.

I did make the jam, yahoo! 1 flat of strawberries + a lot of sugar (ugh) + over-priced pectin = 20 one pint jars of jelly. Yum! It seriously pains me to add all that sugar. I try hard to limit my kids sugar intake unless it comes from a fruit. But, I tried a sugar-free jam last year and it sat in the freezer. I enjoy the jam process, the freshness of the ingredients and the assurance that I know what my food is made of, but I'm also very frugal and this needs to be cost effective. Sugar-free jars of jelly left unused in the freezer do not count as being cost effective. So, sugar it is.

With the help of my sweetie, the raised bed garden is built & planted. Love it! I did the planning and planting, but my husband spent hours cutting the cedar boards and constructing the box. Knowing how particular I am, he spent extra time making sure it was just right. Love him.

I did not make any welcome signs. Sigh. Try as I might, it is hard to get my work completed on the weekends. It is pure chaos around here. So, I've moved that on to this week's goal list. But, I did get a batch of Hook Racks created. They are perfect for jewelry, towels, keys, etc.. Visit my etsy shop (sidebar) to purchase.

My Weekend Goals

2. Make a big batch of Strawberry Freezer Jam. We eat a lot of PB&J in this house.

I love to *display* my jewelry rather than shoving them in my jewelry box. The latter was what I've been doing most of my life. Add scrambling 5 minutes before I'm supposed to leave to find the perfect accessory and you have a volatile situation. Again, this used to describe me.

In an effort to *simplify* my life & home, I'm packing away a lot of decorations that don't fall into the categories of usefulness, art or something I adore.

It is now relaxing & dare I say fun, to accessorize, even if it is 5 minutes before I'm supposed to leave.

If you haven't stopped by my blog or made the virtual trip to Etsy, I'll give you the low down and show you some of my personal favorites.

Etsy is the best place to shop & sell. They only allow handmade, vintage or supplies to be sold. This is huge for an artist or crafter. I tried selling on Ebay for awhile and it just wasn't the right fit for my handmade goods. It was filled with too many mass manufactured products of low quality and it felt more like a garage sale than a boutique or gallery.

Etsy is a community of sellers and buyers that get each other. The sellers are your peers and that is such an encouraging environment to work in.

The clients are amazing. Seriously, each one is a dear and they appreciate the work that goes into creating handmade items. Simply put, it is where I host my shop and it is also where I shop. I'll warn you though, its addicting.

My fetish

Ribbons, yes ribbons, are my fetish. I am seriously addicted to ribbons. So, this weekend I hauled by two babies to a store dedicated solely to ribbon. Rows and rows of ribbon. I think it's a given that moms can continuously use the word *babies* to describe their children regardless of age, don't you agree? Anyhow, while my kiddos occupied themselves quietly by pretending that they were spies and the security cameras were lasers, I walked the aisles slowly inspecting each shelf. It was a treat. Seriously, like an "anthropoligie" type treat. It could be worse.

So here are a few of my goodies, which I determined were all from the same supplier. Funny how your taste just meshes with some companies. I poured through aisles and aisles and of mismatched ribbon and figured out that every roll I pulled was the same manufacturer.

I love the thickness of the ribbon and the quality of detail.

The two above have rows of fuzziness that remind me of a pussy willow. The symmetry also gives it a post modern feel. Love it!

You'll see these babies again soon as I combine their gorgeous textures with the ceiling tin pieces in my shop.

Loving Turquoise

I've taken this time worn tin and gave it new vibrancy by turning it into this turquoise welcome sign.

I *love* turquoise in natural hues or as a bright accent. This beaded chandelier may as well be a gorgeous piece of jewelry. It makes the room!

While this toned down earthy version feels relaxing & calm.

I love how this large bit of color not only works as a focal point, but it also makes the variety of colors & patterns that are going on in the room (closet...can you imagine?!) somehow work.

How about these tall turquoise curtains in this eclectic room?

And finally, a room all its own in all its turquoise glory.

Bedazzling My Walls

Okay, not exactly "bedazzling", but I am looking to give my walls a little pick me up. My style has been shifting a bit and wall hangings are an easy way to morph my old & new styles.

I've been scanning Etsy for a few pieces and am overwhelmed with the wonderful choices.

I love the detail of these letterpress prints.

And letterpress cards are a perfect way to fill a small frame.

If I were decorating with ceiling tin...

In my family room, I'd place this magnificent handmade sixty-four drawer apothecary cupboard in place of an entertainment center. Of course, my better half would require a flat screen above and I would, of course, agree....I can't help it I love movies.

To balance the primitive-ness of this piece, I'd pair it with a few modern-ish pieces (besides the flat screen t.v.)...

I'd place the "enormous" ceiling tin board as a architectural art piece above the couch (minus the pictures). The tin has such a beautiful design on its own and I want to keep the area somewhat simple.

A little added texture & color from these stunning curtains.

Lastly, to add a little character, I'd place this instant collection of vintage clocks on the apothecary cupboard.

If I were decorating with ceiling tin...

in my bedroom, I'd start with this gorgeous shabby white vintage sideboard to store my jewelry and delicates.

Right above it, I would hang two of my black antique ceiling tin memo boards side by side. Decorated with bits of inspiration and verses to start my day.

And my bedroom wouldn't be complete without bedding from one of my favorite, oh who am I kidding, my favorite store.

A few additional accents and I'm ready to call it a day!

Baby Shower

I recently had the pleasure of co-hosting a baby shower for a dear family member. With games being furthest from everyone's minds, we opted for craft activities to entertain our guests. This seems to be the trend now-a-days.

We started with a scrapbook baby album for the mother of honor. The table was set with a gorgeous quilt in spring colors with layers of cake plates and tea cups filled to the brim with every scrapbook embellishment imaginable. I love using ordinary kitchen serving platters mixed with vintage elements for display purposes.

Each guest had the privilege of creating a page so once the shower was over, the mother of honor received a completed baby scrapbook and all she has to do is add the photos. It was adorable!

The food table (not completely set) was decorated in in greens & white with a fabric bunting banner.

The centerpiece for the food table & the coffee table were ikea coffee mugs (29 cents) filled with petite white flowers. One group had a miniature paper bunting banner & the second grouping had a miniature paper clothes line.

The flower pots doubled as giveaways too!

We then headed outside to enjoy the spring weather & decorate onesies. It always amazes me how the creative possibilities are endless when you get a group of ladies together! Hung on the clothes line to dry, they added extra decoration too!

So, not only did the mom receive fabulous gifts, she was also blessed with onesies & a baby book.

I've returned from a long day at a boutique and have a ton of items to add to my Etsy shop! I'll be

A Few Home Projects in the Works...

In the midst of completing custom orders, stocking my Etsy shop and helping plan a wedding, I decided to add a few home projects to the mix. You see, I have a terrible problem of sitting still. Just not my thing. Don't get me wrong, I'll sit & watch a movie occasionally and of course an episode of Survivor (can't help it I'm addicted), but overall we watch very little tv. Plus my mind never stops going so I always have *ideas* and that is both a curse and a blessing. So, after deciding that it was too late to create the Thanksgiving advent calendar I was coveting, I decided to put my mind on Christmas. With both gift giving & decorating in my thoughts, I couldn't resist these...

I'm busy, busy, busy. This time of year always catches me off guard. It's that pre-season rush and I'm working as quickly as possible to stock up my shop & fulfill pending orders.

I'm thankful I love what I do and am blessed to be able to be at home with my kids. Praise God!

I added a few new pieces today and have several more to add tomorrow. Later in the week, I'll be adding more "welcome" signs to my shop...the few I had sold out the first day. Thank you!!

My open dining area, (though I'd change the rose wall to a natural earthy orange)...

Ahhh, Fall is finally in the air! I'm loving the crisp cool weather & the feeling of sweaters & hot coffee.

Fall weather makes me want to fluff the nest, so to speak.

I'm adding some layers of decorative coziness to my home...

Ceiling Tin Upcycle: Part 100+

Sometimes I wish I would have kept a tally mark for each of the ceiling tin items I've created. I think I'd be shocked if I saw them gathered in one large room. I have no idea how many I've made, it's all a bit of a blur.

What can I say though, I love working with this material. The safety mask isn't the loveliest accessory in the world, but oh well. In fact, I think it seriously scares my son a bit. He always says "Your done now, right? You can take off the mask now, right?" "Right?".

This is my latest table-top memo board & picture frame. It sits both horizontally & vertically and is perfect for pictures, recipe cards & all the little love notes!

Adorned with a vintage hardware magnet & civil war era buttons.

Sorry if you know someone who participates in reenactments, they'd probably die knowing I made them into magnets.

To each his own, right?

(now I know where my son gets it from)

Moving on...

A custom request from a client who also adores a little color. I just can't say no to "burnt orange".
